Empower SCI
Empower SCI was a 2 week rehab program to help SCI participants become more functionally independent. They had PT and OT 3 days a week where they were pushed to reach their individual goals that they had set for themselves. Other activities yoga, kayaking, surfing, trying standup wheelchairs, track chairs etc. they also had presentations about getting back to school, sexuality and parenting, self defense They also met with mentors throughout the week who also have an SCI ( but have had it for many more years than the participants) and they talked to them to get advice, learn new tricks, adaptive devices etc. It was 2 weeks straight of just focusing on themselves and their independence, along with being in a positive amazing environment.

Volunteering with Row New York's Para-Rowing Recreational Team
Stony Brook University Pre-Occupational Therapy Society members have volunteered with Row New York's Para-Rowing Recreational Team throughout the 2014 spring and 2014 summer sessions. It was a wonderful experience getting to know the rowers and helping them enjoy the sport of rowing. In addition, we were able to learn about adaptive rowing equipment.
