About us:
The purpose of the Stony Brook Occupational Therapy Society is to create a strong foundation for all students interested in pursuing Occupational Therapy as a profession in health care. Guest speakers such as students in the Stony Brook OT Program along with staff members of the OT Department at Stony Brook University will provide members with valuable information on what it is like as a student in OT as well as what is expected for prospective students. Meetings will range from 2-3 times a month. Volunteering trips will be scheduled to help students fulfill their requirements as well as get hands on experience. The ultimate goal is to better each individual’s chance on being accepted to his or her OT program of choice as well as fusing his or her own unique skills into their application process. For those who want to learn more about OT, each meeting will hold lectures on what OT exactly is and how is it different from other fields such as PT (Physical Therapy).

Why I want to pursue OT: I grew up around the profession due to my younger brother's diagnosis of autism and since then I have seen OT in a variety of settings, and realized how crucial it is in the healing process of so many individuals. OT is a combination of healing, creativity and care...it gives me an excuse to help people as a job for the rest of my life!
Fun fact: My books are my most treasured possessions :)
